A Step Towards Sustainability

Last month, I came across this instagram reel where a climate activist was talking about bio-enzyme, its benefits, and methods of preparation. She made bio-enzyme out of lemon peels. I was quite intrigued by it because as an enthusiastic gardener I know lemon peels don’t biodegrade easily. It takes really long. Once I tried composting but these warriors take hell of a long time to break down.

Hence, I thought why not try at home. I might be able to crack it and finally bid my farewell to the conventional detergents which have nothing but carcinogens. So I followed her instructions step by step. I accumulated lemon peels, washed them, put them in a clean container with a bit of jaggery and loads of water. Although she said to keep it at least for a month to prepare. However, I tested today after 14 days of preparation. And I have to say, I AM INCREDIBLY IMPRESSED. Not only it smells just like the lemon air fresheners, but also it works. I used it to clean my table and mirror first and the result came out squeaky clean. Then I wiped floor and even washed my clothes with it.

By looking at my joy, it just feels like I have cracked some enigma code. But honestly, I feel relieved. Finally I can reduce the use of store-bought detergent and use the kitchen wastes to prepare this gem. It will be a sustainable journey for me, Hence, I’m so happy.

I wish I could actually pitch this idea and sell it to people. Could have saved the carcinogenic exposure to some extent and reduced waste.
